| Description: | This is the third special issue to cover recent progress in the field. As usual, priority in abstracting has been given to the most accessible work and, in particular, to those papers which furnish original data or report important new techniques, phenomena or anomalies; although there is also extensive coverage of more qualitative features of diffusion and defect phenomena, of the predictions of computer models, and of theoretical studies. As before, the usual definition of ‘ceramic’ has been widened so as to include all forms of carbon, and also some nitrides whose primary use is not that of a classical ceramic. The issue of course also includes original papers on the subject, beginning with a definitive review of the preparation and study of boron nitride, and a brief summary introduction to composite solid electrolytes. However, the accent of this volume is on introducing new data, new materials and new methods of production, and includes – under those headings – the behavior of SiC, GaN, SiON, titanates and LiNbO3 under various conditions, details of the preparation of a new oxyborate, and of a method for the shock-synthesis of diamond. Altogether, this again makes the present issue an up-to-date and convenient source of new information on current trends in the field of Defects and Diffusion in Ceramics. |
