| Description: | Several things have changed in the world of composites in recent years. While many industries have reverted to metals for motor car bodies, composites have found new openings in areas such as civil engineering, particularly because they offer a simple and rapid means of restoring damaged structures. Nevertheless, the main obstacle to their widespread use in a variety of promising fields, such as machine construction, continues to be the difficulty of treating concepts such as heterogeneity and anisotropy. Many problems remain, such as: - a lack of literature data on basic mechanical properties, - the response to particular loading conditions, - the effect of the environment upon short and long term behaviour, - a lack of simple models for the complex behaviour of laminates following initial failure, - a need for accurate numerical simulation of geometrically complex composites, - a need for new techniques for describing the damage state. The present book helps to address many above problems, and makes a substantial contribution to obtaining a greater insight into the behaviour of composite materials. 1. Characterization. 2. Impact - Marine. 3. SMC. 4. Fatigue and Fracture. 5. Experimental Techniques. 6. Design and Modelling. |
