Description: The physics of ordered materials is much better understood than that of disordered materials. The lack of a long-range periodic structure makes it difficult to develop the theory of disordered phases. It is not surprising that it is often found difficult to interpret experimental data on these systems.
In recent years, materials research has increasingly focused on understanding the disordered state of matter. The central themes of the present publication are transport phenomena and the related properties of disordered materials. The topics covered include liquids and polymers, glassy materials, materials with simple defects, non-crystalline materials and clusters, high-Tc materials, and surface modification and characterization. Both atomic and charge transport in these materials are considered.
